Compressed air dryers

Adsorption dryers and refrigeration dryers for optimum dry compressed air protect your compressed air system from corrosion

Untreated compressed air is moist when it leaves the compressor. When this air enters the piping system it cools, resulting in (liquid) water and water aerosols. Wet compressed air leads to corrosion, the growth of microorganisms and the formation of an oily acid compressor condensate. For a manufacturing facility that relies on compressed air for automation, these contaminants can directly affect safety, productivity and efficiency.

Compressed air drying is therefore essential, and for this purpose a refrigerated dryer, adsorption dryer or hybrid dryer is then used in the compressed air system.

Type of compressed air dryers

There are several methods for drying compressed air.

Refrigeration dryers
Simple and inexpensive principle. Suitable for most compressed air applications.
Adsorption dryers
Suitable for high-performance industrial processes or environments subject to temperatures below 0 °C.
Hybrid dryers
Integrating modern energy-saving refrigeration dryers with the low pressure dew points of an adsorption dryer.
Membrane dryers
Low pressure dew points for small flow rates - in low space environments or for mobile applications.

Refrigeration dryers

Refrigeration dryers use a closed cooling system to lower the temperature of the compressed air to just above freezing, causing condensation of water vapor. Most of the condensed liquid is then removed by an integrated water separator and is then suctioned out. Prior to leaving the dryer, the compressed air is reheated by the incoming compressed air. This prevents condensation from forming on the outside of the distribution lines.

Dryers operating with low-GWP refrigerants in accordance with the requirements of the F-Gas Regulation (EU 517/2014) not only protect the climate and the environment, but also have a long service life.

Adsorption dryers

Adsorption dryers remove moisture from compressed air by means of adsorption beads. When you want to be sure that no microorganisms are created in your compressed air system (this is essential in the food and pharmaceutical industry, for example) or that moisture gets into your compressed air system, you should choose an adsorption dryer. Also when you are dealing with a low ambient temperature, it is wise to choose an adsorption dryer.
There are different types of adsorption dryers, usable for different applications. We distinguish between cold regenerating adsorption dryers and hot regenerating adsorption dryers. The cold regenerating adsorption dryers are perfect for low compressed air needs. For high compressed air needs, we apply a hot regenerating adsorption dryer.

Hybrid dryers

Integrating modern energy-saving refrigeration dryers with the low pressure dew points of an adsorption dryer. Hybrid dryer technology integrates the principles of refrigeration and adsorption into one compact compressed air treatment package for a greener, environmentally friendly, flexible, low-maintenance and economical drying solution.

These hybrid compressed air dryers are already available with flow rates from 6 to 34 m³/min. This makes the decision regarding this versatile energy-saving alternative enormously interesting. On the input side of the new hybrid dryer, a refrigeration dryer offers energy-saving advantages. It ensures a constant pressure dew point of +3 °C in a very cost-effective manner. After this process, the compressed air then flows into the adsorption dryer. In this second treatment stage, correspondingly less energy is required to further dehumidify the air to a pressure dew point of -40 °C. This is required, for example, to keep compressed air in overhead lines condensate-free even in winter.
